Kids will love making this caterpillar craft that eventually turns into a butterfly. Follow our simple instructions to make the caterpillar craft and the cocoon to go with it. Then color the wings for later and place the caterpillar in its cocoon. Hang the cocoon and then sometime later secretly place the wings on the caterpillar so your kids can open the cocoon and find a beautiful butterfly! Perferct for a preschool classroom or to do at home with your child during spring.

What you'll need:

  • 3 sections of egg carton
  • green paint and paint brush
  • liquid glue
  • 2 google eyes
  • 1 pipe cleaner
  • butterfly pattern
  • brown paper lunch bag
How to make your buttefly craft:
  • Paint egg carton section green.
  • When dry, poke two holes on top of egg carton and insert a pipe cleaner through both holes to create two antennae. Add google eyes.
  • Have children color paper bags to create a cocoon.
  • Place caterpillars in bags and hang up on bulletin board.
  • Have children color butterfly pattern and then secretly glue butterflies onto egg cartons and place back in bag for children to open after a few weeks
