Hey Diddle, Diddle Nursery Rhyme Craft

Children will grow to love the nursery rhyme Hey Diddle, Diddle after crafting the Hey Diddle, Diddle Nursery Rhyme Craft.  Create your own fun craft from colored cardstock, wiggly eyes, a Popsicle stick, scissors, string, glue, and markers.  After making your craft, sing the lyrics, and make the cow jump over the moon!

What you'll need:

How to make your Hey Diddle, Diddle Nursery Rhyme Craft
  1. Using scissors, carefully cut a crescent-shaped moon from the yellow cardstock.  Add a face with a black marker.  If desired, cut out a triangle mouth and nose.  (see photos)
  2. Cut a half circle from the white cardstock for the cow’s body.  Cut a small half oval from the white cardstock for the cow’s head.  Cut a small oval from the pink cardstock for the cow’s nose.  Cut two small half ovals for the cow’s ears.  Cut four small rectangles from the white cardstock for the cow’s legs.  (see photos)
  3. Glue the cow’s head to the cow’s body.  Attach the ears to the top of the head.  Glue the legs to the body.  Allow the glue to dry.  (see photos)
  4. Using markers, draw a face on the cow.  Make sure to include nostrils and a mouth.  Glue the wiggly eyes to the cow’s face.  Use a black marker to draw spots and hooves on the cow.  (see photos)
  5. Glue the yarn to the back of the cow for the cow’s tail.  Glue the Popsicle stick to the bottom of the cow’s body.  Allow the glue to dry.  (see photos)
  6. Your cow jumping over the moon is complete.  Sing Hey Diddle, Diddle as your cow “jumps” over the moon!  Print out the provided lyrics to help you sing the song!
