Cattails are such an iconic aspect of a pond that we wanted to make a few to add to a cute pond craft we were making. This cattails craft is so simple to put together but our kids absolutely loved them. We talked about how the felt was fuzzy just like a real cattail and pointed out how the stem stuck out of the top part a bit as well. The girls loved this one, and they looked great with our dragonfly crafts on top of them as well!

What you'll need:

  • Cattails Template
  • Brown felt
  • Green craft foam
  • Green/yellow pipe cleaners
  • Tape
  • Scissors
How to make your cattails craft:
  1. Print our cattail template and cut out the pieces.
  2. Trace the oval piece onto the brown felt and cut it out.
  3. Trace the leaves onto the green craft foam and cut that piece out as well.
  4. Tape one end of the pipe cleaner to the back of the leaves. We trimmed about an inch off our pipe cleaner so the cattail wasn't top heavy.
  5. Tape the other end of the pipe cleaner to the back of the brown oval piece. Make sure you leave about a half inch to an inch of pipe cleaner sticking out of the top!
  6. Repeat for as many cattails as you would like.
