If you are looking for a homemade hanging valentine holder you've come to the right page! We've created three different versions of our valentine holder to meet the needs of all different skill levels, attention spans, and time constraints (in case you don't have time to let paint dry!). Each one of these cute Valentine's Day crafts for kids can be personalized and decorated however your child would like.

Valentine Holder #1: More advanced

What you'll need:

  • Two paper plates
  • White ribbon
  • Paint (two colors)
  • Disposable foam paint brushes
  • Craft foam
  • Black marker
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Glue
How to make your Valentine Holder Craft
  • Cut one of the paper plates in half. Turn the plate over (so the side you wouldn't eat from is facing up) and paint that plate one of your two colors.
  • Place a second paper plate down (so that the side you would eat from is facing up) and paint it the other color. Set the plates aside to dry.
  • When the plates have dried, line the half plate up with the whole plate and use your hole punch to poke holes around the outside rim of the two plates (only where the half plate meets the bottom plate -- so don't punch holes the whole way around the whole plate).
  • Use the white ribbon to tie the plates together. Lace the ribbon around the plates to hold the two together. **Tip: if ribbon is too frustrating for your child to lace, consider either winding a little bit of tape around the ends to create a point for them, or use shoe laces!).
  • Cut two holes in the top of the holder and thread a piece of ribbon through them to create a hanger for your valentine holder.
  • Use craft foam and cut out a name plate and other decorations for your holder.
  • Use a marker to write your child's name on the craft foam name plate

Valentine Holder #2: Simple (construction paper version)

What you'll need:

How to make your Valentine Holder Craft
  • Print our template and cut out the pieces. Trace the larger heart and the "bottom of the heart" pieces onto red construction paper. Trace the smaller heart onto white construction paper. Cut out your pieces.
  • Glue the bottom of the heart piece onto the larger red heart piece - but only glue along the edges so that you form a pocket.
  • Glue the white heart to the large red heart, tucking the bottom of the white heart into the pocket you've created.
  • Write your child's name onto the white heart.
  • Tape or glue a loop of ribbon to the back of the heart to create a hanger.

Valentine Holder #3: Simple (craft foam version)

What you'll need:

How to make your Valentine Holder Craft
  • Print our template and cut out the pieces. Trace the larger heart onto pink craft foam. Trace the "half heart" onto purple craft foam. Cut out your pieces.
  • Glue the bottom of the heart piece onto the larger pink heart piece - but only glue along the edges so that you form a pocket.
  • Glue a picture of your child to the front of your valentine holder. (If you don't have a picture to use, write the child's name there instead).
  • Decorate using the heart shaped decorations.
  • Punch two holes in the top of the holder and thread ribbon through to create a hanger.
