Turn that ordinary spud into an artist’s tool with the 100 Day Printed Potato Patterns craft.  This easy-to-make craft uses only potatoes, paint, and paper.  This craft is perfect for children of all ages and can even be adapted for other holidays or celebrations.  Get creative and get printing!

What you'll need:

  • 1 potato
  • 1 knife
  • Cutting board
  • Washable paint
  • Paper plate
  • Cardstock
  • Markers (optional)
  • Wooden dowel (optional)
How to make your 100 Days Printed Potato Patterns
  1. Have an adult carefully cut a potato in half.  Set one half of the potato aside.  Since the potato is already a circular shape, this half will be your zero.  To make the one, cut away both sides of the potato so that there is a strip left in the middle.  (see photos)
  2. Squirt some paint onto a paper plate.  Dip the potato into the paint and then dip it onto the cardstock paper.  Continue dipping and pressing onto the cardstock, using the one and zero shapes to form 100.  (see photos)
  3. Get creative: you may want to mix colors to see what new colors you can come up with or dip a potato half in one color and half in another color to create a two-tone effect.  You can even use other vegetables or fruits (apples, oranges, onions, celery, and carrots) to make other fun one hundred designs!
  4. You may also use a wooden dowel to make small designs or dots.  Simply dip either end (pointed or blunt) into the paint and press onto the paper.  You can also decorate your paper with markers.
  5. Once complete, allow your printing to dry.  After it is dry, you can use it to wrap a present, make it into a card, use as a placemat for dinner, or simply display it for all to see your beautiful artwork!
