Alphabet Caterpillar Craft

This easy-to-make egg carton craft makes learning fun for your preschooler! Children will love writing out the letters of the alphabet on the Alphabet Caterpillar. Once complete, children can play with their Alphabet Caterpillar and begin to recognize both capital and lower case letters.

What you'll need:

  • Egg cartons (2- 18 cup egg cartons or 3-12 cup egg cartons)
  • 1 pipe cleaner
  • 2 wiggly eyes
  • Tacky glue
  • Crayons
  • Black marker
  • Scissors
  • toothpick
How to make your alphabet caterpillar craft:
  1. With adult supervision, cut the egg cartons apart so that they are in single rows. Line the egg cartons up in a line so that you have 27 egg cups (cut off the extra ones). (see photos)
  2. Using a toothpick, punch a hole on both sides of each of the egg carton cups, except for the first and last one in the line. Only punch one hole in these ones (see photos)
  3. Fold the pipe cleaner in half and cut with the scissors. Using a toothpick, carefully punch two holes in the top of the first egg cup and thread the pipe cleaner through as antennas. Glue the wiggly eyes on the same egg cup. (see photos)
  4. Cut the remaining pipe cleaner into small pieces and thread into the punched holes on the ends of the egg cups to connect them. (see photos)
  5. Using the black marker, write one capital letter on each egg cup. On the other side, write the corresponding lower case letter. For example, on the second egg cup, you would write the letter "A" on one side and the letter "a" on the other side. (see photos)
  6. Using the crayons, decorate the caterpillar.
  7. Your Alphabet Caterpillar is now complete! Now when you sing your ABC's, you can point to the letters on your Alphabet Caterpillar!
