Hickety, Pickety, My Black Hen Nursery Rhyme Craft

What you'll need:

• Black, red, white, yellow, and orange colored cardstock
• 1 wiggly eye (optional)
• Feathers
• Glue
• Scissors
• Hickety, Pickety, My Black Hen Nursery Rhyme Lyrics
• Markers (optional)
• Chalk (optional)

1. Using scissors, carefully cut a large half oval from the black cardstock for the hen’s body.  Cut a small triangle, rounded on one side, from the black cardstock for the hen’s tail.  Cut a circle from the black cardstock for the hen’s head.  Cut a small triangle from orange cardstock for the hen’s beak.  Cut a wavy crown to sit on top of the hen’s head from red cardstock.  (see photos)
2. Glue the red crown to the black circle head.  Glue the orange beak to the black circle head.  Glue the head to one side of the half oval.  Glue the black triangle to the other side of the hen.  Allow the glue to dry.  (see photos)
3. Use chalk to draw an eye on the hen or glue a wiggly eye to the hen’s head.  Allow the glue to dry.  (see photos)
4. Glue feathers to the middle of the hen’s body to create wings.  Allow the glue to dry.  (see photos)
5. Using scissors, cut a half oval from the yellow cardstock for the hen’s nest.  Use a black marker to draw lines to make the nest look like it is made from hay.  Glue the hen to the nest.  (see photos)
6. Using scissors, cut a small oval from the white cardstock for the hen’s egg.  Glue to the bottom back of the hen and nest.  Allow the glue to dry.  (see photos)
7. Your hen is complete.  Print out the provided lyrics, glue them to your hen if desired, and start singing!
