Coloring Easter eggs with our kids is one of our favorite holiday activities. We love how excited they get when the eggs come out of the dye cups for the first time and they get to see the beautiful colors. This fun and easy Easter craft lets your child create their own beautifully colored Easter egg, and their hands won't be five shades of green in the morning! This technique for creating child friendly sun catchers turns out beautifully every time and can be easily adapted for multiple ages. We had our 19 month old and our five year old each complete an egg at the same time. While the baby's attention span isn't the greatest she still seemed to enjoy the process, especially when she realized that contact paper is sticky. Her egg looks fantastic in the window even if it's not as beautifully complete as our older daughters. We hope your family enjoys this great Easter craft as much as ours did.

What you'll need:

  • Easter Egg template
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Contact paper (available at most hardware stores as well as craft stores)
  • Multiple colors of tissue paper
How to make your Easter Egg Sun Catcher Craft:
  1. Print our Easter egg template. Cut the egg template out and trace it onto construction paper. Cut the egg out of the construction paper.
  2. Cut out the middle of the egg leaving approximately 1/2" of the outside intact. Discard the center you just cut out.
  3. Peel the backing paper off of the contact paper and stick your egg outline onto it.
  4. Cut multiple colors of tissue paper into 1 inch squares.
  5. Stick the tissue paper onto the egg making sure to overlap the pieces.
  6. Peel the backing paper off another piece of contact paper. Carefully stick it over the first piece/egg. It works best to go from the middle of the project out to the sides to avoid air bubbles.
  7. Trim the excess contact paper off of your project.
  8. Hang up on a sunny window.
