Entertain young children with the fun Old MacDonald Had a Farm Nursery Rhyme Craft.  This craft is made from colored cardstock, markers, scissors, a paper bag, and farm animal stickers.  Once complete, children will have a stack of animal cards to incorporate into the popular Old MacDonald song.

What you'll need:

How to make your Old MacDonald Had a Farm Nursery Rhyme Craft
  1. Using scissors, carefully cut squares from the colored cardstock.  Cut one square for each type of farm animal sticker that you have.  Place a sticker on each of the cards.  Decorate the cards and write the name of the animal and the sound that animal makes on the cards, if desired.  (see photos)
  2. Cut a house shape (a rectangle with a flat-topped roof) from the red cardstock for the barn.  Cut one large rectangle from the white cardstock for the barn door.  Cut two small rectangles from the white cardstock for the barn windows.  Glue the doors and windows to the barn.  Glue the barn to the bottom of the brown paper bag.  Allow the glue to dry.
  3. Use a black marker to outline the windows and door.  Also draw an “X” through each window and door.  (see photos)
  4. Open up the brown paper bag and place the cards inside.  Write “Old MacDonald Had a Farm…” the brown paper bag with markers or glue the lyrics provided to the brown paper bag.  (see photos)
  5. To play the game, have your child reach inside and pick out a card.  Sing Old MacDonald using the animal picked from the brown paper bag.  For added fun, have your child guess what animal he or she will pick before picking it out!
