Looking for a fun and educational game for your toddler or preschooler?  Make the Egg-citing Shape Match from an egg carton, clothespins, markers, and scissors.  Once complete, ask your children to match the shapes and talk about the names of the different shapes.  You’ll be surprised at how quickly they can learn their shapes with this fun game!

What you'll need:

  • Scissors
  • Markers or crayons
  • 12 cup cardboard egg carton
  • 12 clothespins
How to make your Egg-citing Shape Match
  1. Have an adult cut out a large hole in the bottom of each of the twelve egg cups.  (see photos for examples)
  2. On the side of the egg carton, draw a different shape on each of the egg cups.  For an added challenge, you can write the name of the shape instead.  (see photos)
  3. Draw each shape and write the name of the shape on the clothespins. (see photos)
  4. Have your child decorate the egg carton and clothespins with markers and crayons.  (see photos)
  5. Ready to play your game?  Pick up a clothespin and figure out which hole it belongs in.  The triangle clothespin should end up in the triangle egg cup hole and the square clothespin should end up in the square egg cup hole.  See how many you get right.  With practice, you’ll know them all in no time!
