If dad or grandpa would rather be fishing, this Father's Day fishing rod craft is the perfect gift for father's day. We had both of our daughter's make a fish to put on the pole that we made for their grandfather. Our 5 year old made a fish full of rainbow sparkles while our almost 2 year old ripped the tail off hers and scribbled on it! It was a fun way to capture (very accurately) both of their current personalities in one craft. This is a simple father's day craft made from materials you have on hand. Dad or grandpa will love it.

What you'll need:

  • Fishing Rod template
  • Construction paper
  • Cardboard (we used a flap of a diaper box)
  • Fish and Fishing Pole template
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue
  • Tape
  • Yarn
  • Stickers, gems, etc.
  • Markers, crayons, etc.
How to make your Father's Day Fishing Rod Card:
  1. Print our template and cut out the pieces. Trace the fishing pole template onto cardboard and brown construction paper. We did it this way because the box we used had printing on both sides. The paper is too weak on its own, so we wrote our message on the brown paper and then glued it to the cardboard so that it was sturdier. Cut out the fishing pole pieces.
  2. Trace the fish template onto construction paper and cut them out.
  3. Have your child decorate the fish.
  4. Once the fish are dry, tape one side of a piece of yarn to the back of the fish and the other side of the yarn piece to the back of the end of the fishing pole.
  5. Write your message on the fishing pole. We went with "Our Gramps is a great catch!".
