Make your own snakes in the Creepy, Crawly Snakes Shape craft!  This craft allows preschoolers to identify common shapes as well as work on developing fine motor skills.  Perfect for a story hour, classroom, or home setting, make your own snakes from colored cardstock, pasta, pipe cleaners, and straws.

What you'll need:

  • Scissors
  • 3 colored pipe cleaners
  • Creepy, Crawly Snake Shapes Template
  • 3 pieces of colored cardstock
  • markers or crayons
  • Large pieces of pasta (ex: Rigatoni or penne)
  • 3 Straws
  • Wiggly eyes (optional)
  • Glue (optional)
How to make your Creepy, Crawly Snake Shapes
  1. Print the Creepy, Crawly Snake Shapes template onto colored cardstock.  You may want to print each of the pages on a different color of cardstock so that each of your shape snakes is a different color.  Cut out the shapes.  (see photos for examples)
  2. Using crayons or markers, decorate the shapes.  If using wiggly eyes, glue two on one square piece of cardstock, one circle piece of cardstock, and one triangle piece of cardstock.  Allow the glue to dry.  (see photos)
  3. Cut the straws into one to two inch pieces.  Alternate threading straws, pasta, and colored pieces of cardstock onto the pipe cleaners.  You may wish to have each snake be a different type of shape or you may wish to have a snake that combines all of the shapes.  Bend over both ends to secure the pieces.  (see photos)
  4. Your creatures are now ready to crawl.  Set them up around the house and surprise your family with them!
