Children will learn shapes, colors, and patterns with the fun and simple Button Up Shape Shirt Decorations craft.  This easy craft uses a template to help youngsters trace various shapes onto felt.  Once the shapes are cut out, children can decorate their button up shirts with various shape, pattern, or color combinations.  This craft can even be customized to fit any holiday or season!

What you'll need:

How to make your Button Up Shape Shirt Decorations
  1. Print the Button Up Shape Shirt Decorations template onto white cardstock.  Cut out the shapes.  (see photos)
  2. Decide what colors you want each shape to be and trace the shape onto that color of felt.  You may want all of your shapes to be one color or you may want to have more than one of each shape so that you can create a pattern.  It’s up to you so be creative!  (see photos)
  3. Once you have traced your shapes, cut them out.  Fold the shapes in half horizontally and cut a small slit in the center of the shape.  Make sure the slit is just slightly larger than the button you will put the shape on top of, but make sure that the hole isn’t too big otherwise it will hang loosely on the button and fall off.  (see photos)
  4. Your Shape Shirt Decorations are ready to use.  Decorate a shirt with a favorite pattern or shape.  You can even use these shapes to decorate other items of clothing, purses, bags, and lunch boxes.  Another fun idea is to make different felt shapes for different holidays and seasons (i.e. snowflakes for winter, flowers for spring, leaves for fall, suns for summer, eggs for Easter, shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day, pumpkins for Halloween, and Christmas trees for Christmas!)
