This groundhog puppet craft is a great February project. Discuss Groundhog’s Day with your class and ask them if they would like six more weeks of winter or an early spring! After painting a paper plate brown, children cut whiskers and teeth from white foam and ears from brown construction paper. These are glued to the plate as well as two google eyes and a button nose. A craft stick glued to the back turns this little groundhog into a puppet that children can play with or put on a puppet show.

What you'll need:

  • Paper plate
  • Brown paint
  • Paint brush
  • Two google eyes
  • Small black button
  • White foam
  • Brown construction paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Craft stick

How to make your Paper Plate Groundhog Puppet Craft

  3. Glue the button under the eyes.
  4. Cut two small rectangles from the white foam for teeth and glue under the button.
  5. Cut four longer, thin white rectangles from the white foam and glue on either side of the button to create whiskers.
